Snowtape 0.4.1 Available

With every day we are getting closer to the final release. The change list of this minor update is longer then I anticipated. Of course I fixed some bugs, after all the app is still in beta. You can find the complete list of changes here. I just want to mention a couple of this more deeply:

Foresighted Recording

I added a new feature, which I called "foresighted recording". Yes, I said the app is feature complete, but I just couldn't resist. You may find the name odd, me too. And I invite you to find a better name, but the feature is really great! It needs some explaining though. Sometimes you have a radio station which changes the stream titles too late or you simply started the recording a bit too late. Then "foresighted recording" comes into play. Snowtape is recording the currently played radio stream in background all the time. It does this by using a circular buffer (geek name). It means if the buffer is full it drops the oldest audio samples. This way Snowtape always has the last couple of seconds already recorded for you. So now, when you hit record, the recorded track is already five or more seconds long. Same thing when a new track is being created during a recording session. Every track is now longer at the beginning. Sometimes this means that some samples of the last audio track are also recorded into the current audio track. You have to cut the recording manually then. Because the results of "foresighted recording" are not immediatelly clear, this feature is optional and has to be activated in the preferences.

Bells and Wizzles

To make a really good application final the app has to have lots of little things, like context menus, dock menus tooltips and so on. Snowtape has this now and it now also displays a small badge in the dock icon when you are recording. I also improved the cover view user interface. It should work better now and should be way more obvious. Additionally I also tried to minimize some unwanted effects when radio stations are changing their stream titles to prompt advertisement.

French localization

Thank you to Philippe GUEDJ for creating the french localization.

Make sure you update today! This can be done via the integrated update mechanism or directly from the Snowtape website.
