Snowtape 1.1.3 Available

Orignally I prepared a complete different blog post. I wanted to tell you something about SnowRemote, the new iPhone and iPod Touch companion app for Snowtape. I had this whole thing planned out. The website was already prepared, press releases were already written. But then I made a big mistake. I assumed Apple would just approve my app and everything would be great. But these days, you can't rely on Apple. They are treating their developers not very nice and they are not responding on anything. So I virtually don't have any idea how long the approval process will still take. Could be ready tomorrow, but could also be rejected in 2 month. You just don't know. Problem is that SnowRemote just don't work without Snowtape having support integrated. So you can't release one without the other. This was a really bad idea, because now Apple is virtually dictating the release cycle for my Mac app. This also means that Apple is responsible for me holding back features I would like you to have rather sooner than later. But I will put an end to this today. Originally I wanted to publish 1.2 with the SnowRemote feature. I am changing my plans. I will stop treating SnowRemote as a first class citizen and start focusing on improving Snowtape again.

Today I am releasing version 1.1.3 with all the good stuff of 1.2 in it, but without the iPhone feature. The first thing you'll notice is the new countries browser. You can now browse the radio directory using both genres and/or countries. Additionally the app is not filtering streams anymore because of a lack for a suitable decoder. I did this because in the future you will be able to install decoder plugins separately starting with a new ogg-vorbis decoder that can be downloaded as a beta version today. The black application display is now showing the currently used stream format. The third big feature is the new trash category. If you delete an item, or an item is automatically deleted, it won't be purged immediately. Instead it shows up in the trash from which it can be recovered again. If the option for automatically emptying the trash is activated (activated by default), all items are permanently deleted at application termination.

Concerning the mentioned ogg-vorbis decoder. This component is still in beta, so it might not work as expected. If you think you found a bug, please don't hesitate to file a bug report here. I appreciate your valuable feedback.

And what will happen to SnowRemote now? Honestly I don't know. As soon as Apple decides to let me into the App Store, I will quickly launch an update to Snowtape. Until then Snowtape will carry on as if never anything ever happened.
